"The only real breakin’ battle in the world during Covid-19"
At the beginning of 2020, the new coronavirus changed the lives of all mankind. The daily lives of dancers who had been travelling for years were disrupted by the entire epidemic.
As you may recall, Taiwan was the most exceptional country in the world at the time, the first in the world in terms of epidemic prevention, and despite the many regulations, life was almost as normal as if we were living in another parallel time. So we organised the only live competition in the world at the time, Taipei Bboy City Fight Covid19 bboy 1vs1, a live webcast of Taiwan's best breakers to a global audience. More than 2,000 people watched the event online at the same time, and the total online reach has now reached over 20 million viewers.
Not only that, but we also held the Taipei Bboy City Online Video Call Out Battle, which allowed B-Boys/B-Girls from all over the world to participate online and started a global online breaking video competition. The winners were LegoSam from Malaysia, LilG from Venezuela, Xak from Spain, NordDiamond from Russia and Carito from Argentina. There was no income from organising either of these events, only dedication and a quiet sense of satisfaction. A long time ago, a friend of mine asked me: Why do we still run events when we keep losing money? Because we are doing something we love, a culture we love. This is the year that the new project, "New Taipei Fun Street", which was tied back to the New Taipei City Government, made a strong comeback!
Twenty hours to write ten years, and finally the final volume! This year, 2022, we are lucky enough to show the big companies in Taiwan what we are doing, taking street dance/breaking to a new level, whether it's the Olympic National Auditions or the Taipei Bboy City Girl Power, I am grateful for the concrete support from Amway, which will open a new chapter in the future of breaking. I hope that one day when I'm gone, the team can continue to contribute to Taiwan and the world of street dance, breaking the framework!
